Giveaways
Timed giveaways, first-click drops, role-weighted odds, voice-channel winners and the blacklist.
Epix runs two kinds of giveaway. A giveaway stays open for a set time and draws its winners at random when it ends. A drop is a race: the first members to press the button win. On top of both sit two server-wide lists: win-chance multipliers for roles, and a blacklist of members and roles who can never win. Everything on this page works without Premium.
Before you start
- Giveaways are run with slash commands.
/giveawaysneeds Manage Server;/chanceand/blacklistneed Administrator. /giveaways createneeds the Giveaways addon switched on for your server. If it is off, the command tells you so; an administrator turns it on with/enable addon:giveaways.- The bot needs to send messages and embeds in the giveaway's channel. In reaction mode it must also be able to add its reaction: if it cannot, it deletes the post and the command fails.
Creating a giveaway
Run /giveaways create in the channel where the giveaway should appear. The post goes up in that channel.
| Option | Required | Values |
|---|---|---|
| duration | Yes | 30 seconds to 30 days, written like 30m, 2h, 1d or 1w. |
| prize | Yes | Shown as the title of the post and in the winner announcement. |
| winners_count | No | 1 to 15. Default 1. |
| only_role | No | Only members with this role can win. |
| voice_channel | No | A voice or stage channel. Winners are picked only from members who are in it when the giveaway ends. |
/giveaways create duration:1d prize:Discord Nitro winners_count:3
/giveaways create duration:2h prize:Event pass voice_channel:#StageThe post shows the prize, a live countdown, the host, the number of winners and any requirement. In button mode (the default) members enter with the button; pressing it again offers a Leave giveaway button, visible only to them. In reaction mode members enter by reacting with the giveaway emoji. A member who presses the button after time is up is told the winners are about to be announced.
Requirements
only_role and voice_channel are always enforced when winners are drawn: a member without the role, or not in the voice channel at that moment, cannot win. Whether they can enter at all depends on the Condition flow setting. By default they can enter and are checked at the draw. With entry blocked, the button refuses them and tells them which requirement they are missing.
Ending, editing and rerolling
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/giveaways end giveaway_id | Ends a running giveaway now. Winners are drawn within a few seconds, exactly as if time had run out. |
/giveaways edit giveaway_id | Opens a form to change the number of winners (1 to 15) and the remaining time (30 seconds to 14 days, counted from now). Leave a field empty to keep it. An ended giveaway cannot be edited. |
/giveaways reroll giveaway_id | Draws a new set of winners for an ended giveaway, updates the post and announces them. |
/giveaways list [page] | Running giveaways in this server, 10 per page, the soonest to end first. |
giveaway_id is the ID of the giveaway's message, and the option autocompletes.
How winners are drawn
- Ended giveaways are picked up every 5 seconds. Giveaways are stored, not held in memory, so one that ends while the bot is restarting is drawn as soon as it is back.
- Bots are never drawn, and neither are blacklisted members or members holding a blacklisted role.
- Requirements are applied: the role and the voice channel are checked at the moment of the draw.
- Role multipliers weight the draw (next section). Each winner is drawn in turn and removed from the pool, so nobody wins twice in one draw.
- If nobody entered, the post is marked ended and a reply says so. If people entered but none was eligible, the reply says nobody met the conditions.
- If the giveaway's message or channel has been deleted, the giveaway is closed without winners.
Win-chance multipliers
/chance gives members of a role better odds in every giveaway in the server. Everyone counts as 1x by default, and a 2x member is twice as likely as a 1x member to be picked for each place. A member with several boosted roles gets the highest of their multipliers, not the sum.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/chance addrole role multiplier | Sets a role's multiplier, from 0.1 to 10. Running it again for the same role replaces the value. |
/chance removerole role | Removes a role's multiplier. |
/chance list | Shows every multiplier in the server. |
Blacklist
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/blacklist addmember member | Blacklists one member. |
/blacklist addrole role | Blacklists everyone holding a role. |
/blacklist removemember member | Removes one member from the blacklist. |
/blacklist removerole role | Removes a role from the blacklist. |
/blacklist removeallmembers | Clears every blacklisted member. Blacklisted roles stay. |
/blacklist list | Shows blacklisted members and roles. |
Blacklisted members, and anyone holding a blacklisted role, are skipped when winners are drawn and when a giveaway is rerolled. The blacklist does not stop them pressing the entry button, so they still count towards the entry total shown on the post. Drops do not check the blacklist.
Drops
/giveaways drop prize:Steam key cooldown_by_seconds:5 winners_count:2- The bot counts down in the channel, one message per second, for 3 to 6 seconds (default 5), then posts the drop with its button.
- The first members to press win: 1 to 3 winners, default 1. Pressing twice does not count twice.
- The drop waits for its first press without a time limit. If fewer members press than there are winners, it closes 45 seconds after the first press with whoever pressed.
- A drop has no requirements, multipliers or blacklist, and it is not stored: it only exists while the bot is running.
Settings
/giveaways settings opens a panel for the whole server. Only the person who ran it can use it, and it locks after 60 seconds without a change. Entry mode, emoji, count display and button color are copied onto each giveaway when it is created, so changing them does not alter giveaways already running. Condition flow applies to running giveaways straight away.
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Entry mode | Button | Members enter with a button, or by reacting. |
| Emoji | Your theme's giveaway emoji | Shown on the button, or used as the reaction. To change it, press Modify Emoji and react to the bot's prompt; a custom emoji must belong to this server. |
| Entrants count (button mode) | On the button | Shows the number of entries as the button's label, or as a separate line in the post. |
| Button color (button mode) | Grey | Blurple, Grey, Green or Red. An ended giveaway's button always turns grey and is disabled. |
| Condition flow | Let members enter | Let members who miss a requirement enter and check them at the draw, or refuse their entry until they meet it. |
Troubleshooting
- "This command requires the Giveaways addon": an administrator runs
/enable addon:giveaways. - A reroll says there are no participants: the giveaway used reaction mode, which keeps no entry list to reroll from.
- A voice-channel giveaway ended with no eligible winners: entrants had left the voice channel before the draw. Only members in it at that moment count.
- A role multiplier changes nothing: it is set below 1x, or the member also has a higher multiplier from another role.
- The giveaway post was deleted by accident: the giveaway closes without winners when its time runs out. Start a new one.
