Word games

Quick chat rounds won by typing the answer first: a typing race, capitals, maps, logos, Arabic plurals and letter splitting.

Word games are short rounds played in a text channel. A member starts one with a command, Epix posts the question as an image card with a timer, and the first member to give the right answer wins. They were built for Arabic-speaking servers first: the commands are Arabic words and every game can be played in Arabic, while the typing race, capitals, maps, logos and letter splitting also come in English.

Turning them on

  1. 01
    Enable the Games addon

/enable addon: games, run by an administrator. Until it is enabled, every game command answers that the addon is off.

  2. 02
    Check the settings

/games settings, or !game settings, opens one panel for everything below. It needs Administrator, answers only the person who opened it, and closes after 2 minutes.

  3. 03
    Play

Anyone can start a round with a game's command. A channel runs one round at a time.

Questions come in the server's own language unless you choose content languages in the panel. Plurals is Arabic only. The typing race and letter splitting have separate word lists for English and for Arabic, with Saudi and Egyptian Arabic lists for letter splitting. Capitals, Map and Logos are available in both English and Arabic.

How a round plays

  • The question arrives as a card with the time limit, 15 seconds by default.
  • When answers are typed, the first correct message wins. Wrong guesses cost nothing, so members can keep trying until the timer ends.
  • When answers are buttons, each player gets one pick. A board has 5 to 8 options; from 6 up it is shown as a menu.
  • The win message gives the answer and how many seconds it took. A Play again button stays on it for 60 seconds and starts exactly one new round, however many people press it.
  • If nobody gets it, Epix posts the answer.
  • Map and Logos need their picture, so if the card cannot be drawn the round is refused rather than posted without it. The other games fall back to a text question.

Settings

The panel works in three steps: a scope, a setting, a value. Global applies to every game. Choose one game as the scope to override a setting for that game alone; each setting shows whether it comes from Global, is set for the game, or is fixed by the game's rules. Follow Global clears a game's overrides.

Points, levels and leaderboards

Every win adds the game's points to two separate boards: this server's, and Epix's global one. The server board is what moves the gaming ring on a member's /rank card. The global board feeds the games ranking and level on /profile.

GamePoints per win

عواصم (Capitals)6
جمع (Plurals)7
فكك (Take it apart)8
شعارات (Logos)8
خريطة (Map)9
  • Server points are paid for every win. Global points are paid only when at least three members took part in the round, at most once every 30 seconds per member, and up to 200 a day.
  • In everyone-who-is-right rounds, each correct player is paid.
  • Points turn into a games level on their own curve: level 1 at 20 points, level 2 at 50, level 5 at 200 and level 10 at 650.
  • Server XP per win, when set above 0, is added to the winner's text XP in your server. It counts toward levels and reward roles, but not toward message counts or the text streak.
  • Word games do not pay EPIX. EPIX is earned in Activities.
/gamestats [user] [scope]
/top type:games scope:server period:week
/gamestats shows points and wins per game, for this server or globally. /top type:games ranks members by points, daily, weekly, monthly or all time.

Free and Premium

Every game, setting, board and leaderboard is free. Premium adds a server's own background for its game cards: /games background action:Set image:<file> takes a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 8 MB and applies it at once, and action:Clear goes back to the built-in one. It needs Administrator.

Members with Manage Server can also restyle the answer text on game cards with /font set surface:games and /color surface:games, for every game or, with the game option, one game at a time. Featured fonts and fonts uploaded by the server are Premium; see Profiles and EPIX.

Troubleshooting

  • "This command requires the games addon": run /enable addon: games.
  • "A round is already running in this channel": wait for it to finish, or play in another channel.
  • "This game is disabled in this server": choose the game as the scope in /games settings and turn Game enabled on.
  • "There are no questions for this server's content languages": the game has nothing in the languages you chose. Plurals, for example, needs Arabic in Content languages on an English-language server.
  • A setting will not change for one game: the game fixes it. The panel labels it fixed.
