Welcome greetings

Greet new members by mention in up to three channels, with a short message that removes itself after a few seconds.

The Greet module mentions new members in the channels you choose as they arrive. The greeting is meant to be brief: Epix deletes it a few seconds after posting, so the new member is mentioned where you want them to look, and the channel does not fill up with old welcomes.

Greet is set up entirely with commands in Discord.

Setting it up

  1. 01
    Enable the module

Run /enable addon: greet. This needs Administrator. Until it is enabled, the /greet commands refuse and nobody is greeted.

  2. 02
    Choose the channels

Run /greet settings and pick up to three text or announcement channels from the menu. The choice is saved as soon as you make it. The panel answers only the person who opened it and closes after 2 minutes.

  3. 03
    Write the greeting

Run /greet message with your text, up to 1,800 characters. Use {user} for the new member and {guild} for the server's name.

  4. 04
    Decide how long it stays

Run /greet cooldown with a number of seconds from 0 to 10. This is how long the greeting stays before Epix deletes it.

  5. 05
    Test it

Press Test greet in /greet settings. Epix greets you in every greet channel within about five seconds.

/enable addon: greet
/greet settings
/greet message content:Welcome to {guild}, {user}! Start in #rules.
/greet cooldown duration:5
The /greet commands need Manage Server.

Placeholders

PlaceholderBecomes
{user}A mention of the new member, or of every member greeted in that batch
{guild}The server's name

These are the only two. Any other text in braces is posted exactly as you wrote it.

How greetings are sent

  • Joins are collected and sent every five seconds. Everyone who joined in that window is greeted in one message, with all of their mentions in place of {user}. A very large batch is split across several messages.
  • The same greeting is posted in every greet channel, and each copy is deleted after the cooldown.
  • Bots are never greeted.
  • A greeting pings the members it mentions, never a role, @everyone or @here.
  • A greeting is cut off at 2,000 characters once the placeholders are filled in.

Permissions Epix needs

View Channel and Send Messages in each greet channel. Deleting its own greeting needs nothing more.

Troubleshooting

  • Nobody is greeted: check that /enable addon: greet has been run and that /greet settings lists at least one channel.
  • A /greet command says the addon is not enabled: an administrator needs to run /enable addon: greet.
  • Greetings reach one channel but not another: Epix cannot post in one of them. Channels are greeted in order, and a failure in one skips the rest for that batch, so check the permissions on every greet channel.
  • The panel notes saved channels that are missing: those channels were deleted or Epix can no longer see them. Pick the channels again.
  • Members joined in a burst and got one greeting: that is by design. Joins within the same five seconds share a greeting.
